An Inner Sanctuary for Peace
When you don’t know who you are, everything is chaotic. For those individuals with trauma exposure and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), sound healing can give them a moment of peace during their distress. Sound Healing is a song of the spirit and can be expressed through chanting and/or various instruments such as gongs, crystal bowls, chimes, drums, etc. Many researchers and clinicians have been promoting the use of alternative and less verbally-intensive treatment modalities for trauma survivors.
There are many benefits to sound healing. To name a few it brings harmony with the Universe and our own Being, promotes sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system balance, recharges all cell tissues, calms the mind, enhances creativity, improves sleep and mood, balances brain activity and stimulates spiritual visions or connection to Consciousness.
The effects vary from person to person. Initially some may experience a cathartic emotional release, either during the session or few days after. This can feel overwhelming at first for those who are not comfortable or lack connection to their processing. Those who are ultra-sensitive to sound tend to shy away from this modality. However, if done right it can invoke a soothing experience.
I was introduced to sound healing back in 2010 and hooked ever since! Being diagnosed with C-PTSD, finding a way to feel safe and to make sense of my emotion was almost impossible. Through sound healing I’ve had the most intoxicating experiences and find that I can tap into a realm much bigger than this. In this place of serenity, I was able to cultivate a sense of well-being and experience an unfolding of love and forgiveness that I had never experienced before.
Although you can never erase the memories of the trauma, you can create a different relationship from its devastating effects. The challenge is to silence the mind so that your heart and soul can finally find peace. With sound healing, you can find a place within yourself where healing from trauma is possible.
